The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

See Narnia come to life on stage with The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe touring across the UK this autumn and winter.

In this adaptation, the much-loved story by C.S. Lewis is given a darker, more realistic feel than the children’s TV versions filled with colourful scenes and fluffy animals. Instead, the show opens with a lone soldier playing We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn on the piano. This WW2 theme stays ever present in the background - something that no amount of imagination would have helped a child escape in that era.

The stage is dark with minimal lighting, giving an eerie blackout blitz theme. The sets are carried and danced around by the cast in a dream-like way that’s both performative and functional. It’s all very fast-paced starting with a stunning scene of a steam train rushing through the air as the children are evacuated to the countryside with smoke and travellers rushing back and forward.

Costumes are equally as creative and realistic, using pieces of military uniform, traditional clothing from the era and other accessories like gas masks for the snouts and a wicker snow shoe for a beaver's tail. We thought it would represent how children may see shadowy figures and silhouettes during the blackout and mistake the every day items for magical creatures and animals.

The young cast including Joanna Adaran, Bunmi Osadolor, Kudzai Mangombe and Jesse Dunbar do an excellent job while Katy Stephens portrays the sinister White Witch fantastically. Aslan is one of the most impressive aspects of the production with a life-size three person puppet and a human form played by Daniel Stanton-Wright.

Ideal for both children and adults, though some of the scenes with the White Witch and her demons can be a little terrifying for younger kids, this is a great show to see over the Christmas period and is currently touring around the UK until January 2026.
