Listen up, you overworked City warriors and weekend warriors alike: if your idea of “adult fun” still involves staring at spreadsheets or pretending you enjoy another team-building escape room, The Bowls Club in Finsbury Square is here to gently (but competitively) roll you into a better summer.
Picture this: you step off the tube at Moorgate Underground Station, dodging suits and existential dread, and suddenly you’re transported to a sun-drenched green in the middle of the Square Mile. Real grass. Actual lawn bowls. And enough ice-cold cocktails to make you forget you ever had a 9-to-5. This isn’t your nan’s Sunday afternoon bowls club – this is posh chaos with a side of street food and a DJ keeping the vibes dangerously high. 🎶
Bowls, But Make It Fun (And Fast)
The Bowls Club has taken that gloriously British game – you know, the one that usually involves white trousers and mild arguments about who’s standing on the wrong bit of lawn – and turned it into something actually enjoyable for normal humans. Games are shorter, snappier, and hosted by cheeky “Game Masters” who’ll teach you the ropes, hype up your team, and probably roast your form in the friendliest way possible.
Expect big-team formats that get everyone involved (no one left on the sidelines looking awkward), followed by the legendary Great Bowl Off where glory (and probably a medal or rosette) is on the line. One minute you’re sipping a pineapple margarita 🍹, the next you’re secretly plotting how to sabotage your mate’s shot while pretending to be very civilised. Who knew rolling heavy balls could be this therapeutic?
Food, Drink & That Festival-Without-Leaving-London Feeling
Pair your newfound bowling skills with premium BBQ bites, summery cocktails, and live music that turns the whole square into a mini festival. Partners like The Social Pantry and Binx & Co are on board, so the food slaps as hard as your best (or worst) delivery.
The food is on-point too – fresh and healthy summer salads perfect for the heat and you can mix and match as you like. Mario went for Maple & Paprika Glazed Chicken Thighs with orzo salad and smokey jalapeño, corn & red onion salsa and Mojo Rojo sauce. Being pescatarian I went for the Roasted Piquillo Pepper, Pea & Broad Bean Paella with orzo and salad with maple BBQ sauce. So delicious! 🥗🌶️
It’s the perfect antidote to proper adulting. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve had a proper day out, not just another after-work drink that turns into regret. And for corporate crews? This is summer party gold – packages from around £110pp cover games, food, drinks, and enough entertainment to keep even the most spreadsheet-obsessed colleague smiling.
We tried so many cocktails but our favourites were Ocean Eyes (shout out to Billie Eilish) with Ketel One vodka, blue curaçao and citrus, and the White Lotus — with Ciroc vodka, lychee and floral notes. There's truly a tipple to suit everyone. 🍸🍹🥃
Why You Need This in Your Life
- Date night? Sophisticated yet silly. Impress them with your “natural talent” (or blame the cocktails for any misses). There's also wandering magicians and caricaturists to entertain you.
- Squad goals? Tag your crew for the ultimate showdown. No bowling shoes required – just good shoes for dancing later.
- Team bonding? Way better than another awkward Zoom quiz. Real competition, real laughs, real memories.
The Bowls Club is running select dates through summer 2026 in Finsbury Square (EC2A 1RR). Book ahead for games, but walk-ins are welcome for drinks and vibes. Check the website for the full schedule.
Pro tip: Channel your inner competitive Londoner, embrace the chaos, and remember – it’s not about winning, it’s about looking fabulous while pretending you know what you’re doing. (Though winning feels pretty great too.)
Who’s up for a sophisticated showdown? Drop your bowling alias in the comments – we’re taking bets on who’ll be the surprise champ. 🥳🍸🎳
