Nekter Deli


New Age Wine & Pairings


Discover wine and food with a difference at Nekter Deli in Shoreditch.

Tucked away in Bowl Court in Shoreditch, Nekter is definitely a hidden gem for locals and those in the know. They’re open for coffee, cakes and fresh salads in the day before turning into a laid-back and inviting wine bar in the evening.

A deli that loves to do things differently, they specialises in New World and New Age wine with a focus on championing organic and independent vineyards so that you’re sure to find something new and interesting to try. 

The store is a treasure trove of brands that Jon and Xavier love personally, and they’re so welcoming and knowledgable as they share their recommendations. Having previously spent 10 years importing wines and selling them to the likes of Ynyshir and the Clove Club, Jon has built personal relationships with many of the producers they work with. As he poured us a refreshing sparkling rose from Moonland by Vinca Minor, he talked about the first time he met the owners (Jason and Emily Charles) – it is this personal connection which gives Nekter Deli a unique personal touch.

Inspired by Jon’s love of tasting menus, the food offerings are equally as unique and creative with unexpected touches added to each course, starting with the cheese plate which was packed with Indian spices paired perfectly with Dormilona Blanco a crisp and light bodied white from Australia.

This course features Neal’s Yard Lancashire Poacher with Cumin & Pistachio Jeera Biskuts from the Biskut Bar, Brinjal Aubergine Pickle and Hawkshead Pickles along with St.Jude Soft Cow's Milk Cheese on Haldi Dudh Crackers with turmeric and candied fennel seeds from the Biskut Bar and Chilli Jam.

Skinnie, an elegant natural amber wine made from Sav Blanc grapes at Dormilona vineyard in Margaret River, Australia accompanied the Fish Plate.

This course included Smoked Trout from the Secret Smokehouse in London Fields with Chilli No. 5 Wicked Wasabi hot sauce and Jose Gourmet Tinned Trout on Fig & Almond Toast. Another great thing is that if there’s a particular product you love at Nekter, you can buy it to take home.

Working our way through the rainbow, Counoise Rosato from Californian winery Benevolent Neglect was served next. A savoury pink wine with a bright acidity, it’s the ideal accompaniment to meat.

The meat plate was a treat with thick slices of Saucisson from Westcombe Dairy and a creamy Mousse De Canard duck pâté from Meat Fish Cheese on cherry shortbread. We loved how adventurous the paired crackers and biscuits were - they were surprising but worked really well.

Ending the evening, came the red wines starting with Mendocino Zin x Carignan from Californian winery Vinca Minor combing the grapes of Carignan and Zinfandel then aged in French oak barrels for a fresh, bright and full bodied flavour.

A real indulgence, the finale course was the N25 Oscietra Caviar served with Neal’s Yard Crème Fraîche and Black Truffle Potato Crisps from Patatas Torres. The crisps was quirky but delicious combination. 

With over 100 bottles to choose from, offering such unique and different flavours, it was so hard to pick a favourite but we loved the Kronos Cabernet Sauvignon from Corison winery in Napa Valley, a smooth and rich wine with notes of black currant, blackberry and cherry.

Recently opened, Nekter Deli is definitely one to keep an eye on and a spot we can imagine becoming very popular, so book your table now before you have to join a waiting list!
