Liu Xiaomian Carnaby

Chongqing Spicy Noodle Bar

Put your tastebuds to the test and see if you can handle the heat at Liu Xiaomian in Carnaby.

Located in Kingly Court, this breezy little Chongqing noodle bar restaurant is so welcoming and laid-back, making it an ideal spot for a quick lunch or dinner with friends.

Specialising in traditional spicy noodle dishes, the menus is packed with green peppercorn and numbingly spice sauce. You can choose your own heat level starting from not spicy at all or mild to hot or extra hot.

Don't worry if you need to cool down your tongue because there's a great menu of cocktails, beers and house-made drinks to try. We loved the Rhuberry Delight with rhubarb infused rum, hibiscus tonic and strawberries and the Fresh Start with gin and elderflower & cucumber tonic water.

A great dish for sharing, the Numbing Wontons are filled with pork and served in a numbingly spicy sauce with green peppercorn. These were so deliciously hot that napkins were required to dab our brows.

A little less explosive but still packing a kick, the Aubergine Salad comes caramelised to perfection.

Moving onto the noodles, the Chongqing Xiaomian comes with a choice of toppings including Spicy Beef, Minced Pork, Vegan or Spicy Pig Trotter for the really adventurous.

We loved the Vegan Chongqing Xiaomian with shiitake mushrooms and wheat noodles in a fiery broth with fried soya beans, Chinese mustard, green onion, morning glory and the Spicy Beef Chongqing Xiaomian topped with thick juicy chunks of beef.

If you enjoyed the food as much as we did you can order your own pot of Liu Xiaomian Spicy Chilli Oil to take home.

Make sure to save some space at the end so you can try one of the traditional desserts on the menu. The Ice Jelly in Brown Sugar and Iced Glutinous Rice Ball in Brown Sugar were both incredible and the ideal way to cool down after the meal.
